1.What is a roll forming ?
Roll forming is a continuous process that uses continuous paired rollers to transform the metal sheet into an engineering shape, and each roller only changes the shape incrementally.
The sum of these small changes in form is a complex outline.Through the small change of the roller, the shape of the plate is changed.
In traditional stamping, the entire part is formed at the same time. When the forming strain exceeds the level that the metal can achieve before splitting, the shape of the part—especially its complexity is limited. In roll-forming parts, only a small amount of forming strain is applied to the part in each station, and even here, only a small part is bent at any given time. Therefore, more complex shapes can be achieved through a properly designed roll forming process.
During the roll forming process, the coil or strip is fed into a roll forming line, which converts the flat plate into a formed cross-sectional profile. The uniqueness of this method is the use of continuous forming stations, each of which pushes the metal into the desired shape. According to the target profile, the computer calculates the best position and shape of the roller to achieve the highest efficiency and design the track. The more advanced the shape required, the more rollers the material will pass through. The roll forming line can bend metal, shape the metal into a tube, create a metal labyrinth-like structure, and punch holes in the metal in the process.
Rollers are metal molds with precision contours used to shape incoming metal plates. In most cases, they are also powered rollers that pull the strip through the roll forming unit. These rollers can be as simple as the cylindrical rollers used to roll luggage through airport scanners, or they can take on more complex shapes. After the final forming station, the strip is cut to the length of the ordered product. Normally, no additional work is required before shipment because the final form has already been completed.
